About Tri-Cities MeshCore
Our Mission
Tri-Cities MeshCore is a community initiative to build a long-range LoRa mesh network across the Tri-Cities area using MeshCore firmware. We're creating resilient, off-grid communication infrastructure that works when traditional systems fail and empowers local communities.
What We Do
Deploy LoRa Nodes
We help community members set up MeshCore-compatible LoRa devices - both companion radios for personal use and repeater nodes to extend network coverage.
Education & Support
We provide resources, workshops, and hands-on help for flashing firmware, configuring devices, and understanding LoRa mesh networking - no prior experience required.
Community Building
We host events and maintain online spaces for people interested in off-grid communication, emergency preparedness, and community-owned technology.
What is MeshCore?
MeshCore is an open-source C++ library and firmware that enables multi-hop packet routing over LoRa radios. It's an alternative to Meshtastic that works with the same hardware - devices running Meshtastic can easily switch to MeshCore and back.
Unlike traditional communication that relies on cellular towers or internet infrastructure, MeshCore uses long-range LoRa radio signals that can travel miles. Messages automatically hop from node to node until reaching their destination, creating a resilient network that functions completely off-grid.
Why LoRa Mesh Networks?
LoRa (Long Range) mesh networks provide unique capabilities that traditional infrastructure can't match:
- Communication over miles without towers or internet - just radio waves
- Works during power outages, natural disasters, and infrastructure failures
- Extremely low power consumption - nodes run for months on batteries
- No monthly fees, data plans, or corporate gatekeepers
- Privacy-focused with community control over infrastructure
- Perfect for emergencies, outdoor adventures, and building community resilience
Get Involved
